Digital adaptation of the Argentine Spanish version of the Hayling Sentence Completion Test

Introduction. The Hayling Test measures initiation and inhibitory control. Digital adaptation can reduce costs of neuropsychological assessment, improving accessibility. Still, it requires validation, as digitization may alter psychometric properties. Objective. To adapt a digital version of the Hayling Test in Argentine Spanish. Method. 100 Argentine adults (74% women; mean age 32.6, range 18-65) completed digital versions of the Hayling Test and the Adult Executive Functioning Inventory (ADEXI), both administered through PsychoPy. We examined internal consistency of Part B, reaction times across both parts, Part B reaction time versus total score, and convergent validity with ADEXI Inhibition score. Results. Mean reaction times were 2.01s (SD=0.78) for Part A and 3.17s (SD=2.18) for Part B, with a mean score of 4.47 on Part B (SD=5.20, range 0-22). Internal consistency of Part B was acceptable (Cronbach’s alpha=.75; McDonald’s omega=.77). Reaction times across parts correlated significantly (rho=.33, p<.001). Part B total score did not correlate with Part B reaction time (rho=.07, p=.47), nor with ADEXI Inhibition (rho=-.09, p=.40). Conclusions. These findings support the internal consistency of the digital Hayling Test. No evidence of convergent validity was found, which may be consistent with the complementary nature of performance-based and rating-scale measures. These results represent an initial step towards a digital assessment tool of executive functions.
